The much-loved Mexborough music venue the Imperial Club is in serious danger of closing its door permanently due to Covid 19. The home of live music in Mexborough for many years, with artist like Saxon and more recently The Sherlocks gracing their stage, is in real danger of disappearing from the local music scene.
Despite a lot of pubs reopening, the Imp remains closed with no planned date for opening. Just before lockdown new manager Matt Mason was in negotiations to buy the venue outright, this has been put on hold and now with no revenue coming in for months, it's in critical danger of closing its doors for good.
Together with #saveourvenues, they've launched a fundraiser, a statement from the music venue team reads, " Our venue faces closure due to bills adding up and no income to cover them. With us unable to open with the right capacity, we'll be unable to open and sustain especially as we were not awarded the grant from the local council.
Your donations will be used to get back into the black with bills as well as getting the venue ready for reopening whenever are able.
If we hit our target, and we can prevent the closure of our venue, everything above the amount we need will be donated to the Music Venue Trust GMV Crisis Fund to protect other venues just like ours, right across the country."
Organiser of Conisbrough Music Fest Steve Pugh said, "Outside Doncaster town centre there's nowhere locally that supports live music as much as the Imp, they've been a great venue and meeting place for all musicians, from their award-winning open mic night, right through to acoustic Sundays. They've always supported Conisbrough Music Fest over the years and it would be a massive blow to the area if we lost them"
